BipPass vs 1Password for developer secrets
Checked September 26, 2026
Both are end-to-end encrypted. 1Password is a password manager that also handles secrets; BipPass is built only for application secrets, per project and environment.
| BipPass | 1Password | |

| Can the vendor decrypt your secrets? | No. Values are encrypted on your device; the server stores ciphertext it has no key for | No for vault items, which are end-to-end encrypted; some newer features use server-side confidential computing |
| Inject into a process | bippass run -- <cmd> | op run -- <cmd> |
| Organised by | Workspace → project → environment | Vaults and items |
| AI coding agents | MCP server with no tool that returns a value; command output is scrubbed | Not compared here |
| Pricing | Free for up to 3 people; then $6 (Basic) or $15 (Professional) per member per month | Included in plans; Business $8.99 per user per month billed annually; no free tier |
| Automation limits | Plan limits on projects and secrets | Service accounts are rate-limited per plan (Business: 10,000 reads per hour per token) |
Same security promise, different shape
1Password is one of the few tools here that, like BipPass, cannot read your vault. The difference is the model: 1Password stores items in vaults, built around people and their passwords. BipPass stores secrets per project and environment, built around code — .env import and diff, Docker injection, a pre-commit scan and tools for AI agents.
What 1Password does better
It has a long, audited track record, and many teams already pay for it. If your developer secrets are few and you already live in 1Password, op run may be all you need.
